The North American Continent is made up of 23 different countries and 9 dependent territories. Of the 23 countries that divide up the continent, Canada, and the United States comprise nearly 80% of the total land area. The United States of America (USA) is a country composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions. USA does not have an official language but 80% speak English at home and Spanish is spoken by 12% of the population at home. USA does not have an official religion and they forbid Congress from passing laws respecting its establishment.
